The Best of the Bears is in its 4th year. This year we went with a live voting format, because we thought it would be cool to watch and to create some transparency to the voting.
The voting has been hacked numerous times (we’ve tried to reset the count when warranted) and several nominees have made disparaging remarks about other nominees – WTF? We wanted to celebrate a community we are very proud to be a part of, we wanted to introduce to your fellow bears and some of the really cool thing they’ve done – we never wanted to cause bad feelings among nominees. We are truly sorry if somehow our contest this year has somehow hurt anybody.
I am amazed how what we try to do as acknowledgment of those contributing to the bear community has gotten so twisted. While there have numerous hacks into our site (seriously, why?) we have never suggested who was to blame, we have simply reset the count when say someone goes from a handful of votes to several thousand in a span of 15 minutes.
The spirit of the contest was a celebration of our community, not cut throat contest. We are proud of all of our nominees and hope you can see past the petty and truly know that your bear brothers appreciate all you do for our community.
